Tree Surgeon or Arborist?

Anyone can call themselves a tree surgeon and promote themselves as such. They are unlikely to have the right certificates of competence or tree knowledge.

An Arboriculturalist (arborist), in addition to appropriate certificates of competence, will have academic qualifications in tree science. These enable them to undertake tree surgery in a safe, efficient and sympathetic manner.

See The Arboricultural Association guidance on Choosing Your Arborist (pdf).
